I started drumming at age 6 with around the coffee table, which stopped any conversation at home! It was not long before my parents moved me to the attic where I was free to practice on a 3-piece Kings drum. After a period of not participating in family life, I was rewarded with an adult drumset (Maxwin) ... .... which I paid for myself :-). And of course drum lessons given by our neighbour Jos. It went something like this: during the lunch break at school I quickly went home, where I often heard the neighbor drumming. I would then run to the attic and try to figure out what radio station he was drumming to, it was usually 3FM .... I would then also turn up the volume and we would both go crazy beating the drums (sorry to anyone who has developed a hearing disability as a result of this) When I was 10 years old I enrolled at the Music School in Liemers Zevenaar and started learning how to read music. Bracing the ice cold I also collected old newspapers, using my Granddad's bike with trailer (after all I had a set of drums that I was still paying off). There are countless anecdotes like this. I worked in the television industry for around 9 years. But in the late '90s, I stopped as a sound engineer in Hilversum , so that my (drum) hobby became my profession. I soon got temporary gigs with Jusso Whistler and Ramon Rambeaux (Wild Romance, Herman Brood, John Hayes). If I did not have to play I went along with Ramon to his gigs so that I could watch and learn. Thanks Ramon! After having attended many sessions a period followed with a lot of temporary work/gigs. This was a very important learning curve for me. Getting to know different genres and performing under great pressure. You know the feeling: you have sweat on your forehead before you even begin to play combined with extremely high blood pressure :-). Then I took private lessons with prominent drummers in the country, including Andre Kemp (Kane, Billy the Kid) Cesar Zuiderwijk (Golden Earring) and Pierre Cour Bois! Hans Eijkenaar (Anouk, Trijntje) taught me a lot of the technical ins and outs of the music business. Thanks Hans! Currently I am studying under Oscar Kraal (Candy Dulfer, Frank Sinatra and Seven). Besides my studio work , playing in various bands and the session's I do in Arnhem, I now also give Drum Workshops at schools and Drum Clinic's ... .. for the drummers among us! For private drum lessons you can mail me: info@vincentbodt.nl I wish you a lot of viewing and listening pleasure on my site! Regards Vincent |
